9 Ways to Prioritize Wellness

What is wellness? It highkey just sounds like one of these buzz words that blogs and businesses are using to draw in attention and as soon as there’s a new buzz word, they’ll drop this one for the next. Regardless of how finicky the media is, wellness is actually one of those things they got right this time. Basically what I’m getting at is: I care a whole lot about wellness and I’m going to explain why you should too.

First let’s start by breaking down the word. Its super DUPER broad, but essentially wellness refers to ones overall well-being. This is personal to every individual, but professionals have broken down wellness into 7 categories:

  • Physical.

  • Emotional.

  • Intellectual.

  • Social.

  • Spiritual.

  • Environmental.

  • Occupational.

This is ideal, but let’s be real–there’s a lot on this list and I can barely remember to make myself breakfast in the morning. I recommend starting with one or two categories to focus on and when you feel comfortable, add as you go.

The reason why wellness is so freakin important, is because it is essential to living an happy and balanced life. Studies have shown, that those who prioritize their wellness are 20 times happier than the average person.

That’s a whole lotta happy.

But how do we achieve this? How do we execute this? Here are some tips:

  1. Prioritize your mental health.

  2. Invest in yourself.

  3. Prioritize your physical health.

  4. Abandon what was. Don't try and hold on to the old normal.

  5. Remain open.

  6. Find your passions.

  7. Be mindful of your time.

  8. Follow a routine.

  9. Reward yourself.

Life has ups and downs, what helps us deal with the uncertainty is choosing happiness daily. Wellness is an *active* choice to work toward a fulfilling life. Everyday you are choosing yourself. Life is something YOU control, not something that runs and controls you and your life.

All I’m saying is: Choosing wellness is choosing yourself.
